Safe Riding Tips

With the weather warming up, community members look forward to spending more time outside and on their bikes, especially children.  Here are a few tips for riders:

  • See and Be Seen:  Wear bright colors when riding day or night, and have reflectors on your bicycle.  Remember, just because you can see a driver doesn’t mean he sees you.
  • Avoid Road Hazards:  Look out for potholes, broken glass, gravel, puddles, leaves and dogs.
  • Avoiding Riding at Night:  It’s far more dangerous to ride at night than during the day.
  • Obey the Rules of the Road:  Bicycles are vehicles and cyclists have the same rights and the same responsibilities to follow the rules of the road as motorists.

For more information, visit the National Highway traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) “Kids and Bycycle Safety” article.

Are you renting? Do you manage Rental Property?

If you own or rent a property, the tenants MUST have a “Certificate of Occupancy” before they can open an account for utilities.  A Certificate of Occupancy can be picked up in person at City Hall, or you can download one from this link:  “Certificate of Occupancy”

If you have questions please ask the utility clerks or contact the Planning and Zoning Department at 830-334-5759, or find more information on the Planning and Community Development Department page at
