Vacancy – Police Department

ANIMAL CONTROL: Ensure well being of animals, investigate claims of abused, abandoned or unattended animals. Respond for claims of dangerous animals. Handle animals of all sizes & temperaments.  May even have to euthanize animals that are imposing an immediate risk to humans. Inspect animal holding facilities, such as shelters or barns. Public may call to round up animals or clean up dead animals on public property. Write out warnings and issue citations, settle disputes between individuals. Driving an animal control vehicle, or chasing animals on foot and filing paperwork. Will spend time outdoors in wet or cold weather.

CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER: Inspects single family homes, apartment buildings, businesses, vacant lots and other properties, ensure compliance with applicable zoning and environmental health codes, ordinances and regulations. Determines whether property is in compliance, issues warnings and violations notices as required. Documents actions and notices, performs follow up inspections to ensure compliance. Responds to alleged violations, conducts interviews w/complainants and witnesses, takes photographs of violations when necessary & creates a file for ea. address where offense occurred. Maintains files of properties that have had violations reported. Performs research to determine the approved conditional uses of property, researches ownership & takes action to enforce city codes.

POLICE OFFICER: Patrols an assigned area, generally by vehicle to prevent crime and enforce laws and ordinances and responding to emergency calls. Directs traffic, escorts traffic, operates traffic radar monitoring equipment and issues traffic citations. Conducts initial investigations of traffic accidents and crimes against persons and property; questions witnesses complainants, victims and suspects and takes statements and affidavits. Keeps records of activities and prepares reports concerning crimes, complaints, accidents and investigations; submits controlled substances to DPS lab for analysis; serves warrants and arrests; chases and apprehends suspects; works outdoors in hot, cold and/or wet weather; processes prisoners, including fingerprinting, photographing, ensuring magistration by a judge, approving city bonds, searching prisoners, recording and securing the prisoner’s property and transporting prisoners to appropriate facility; etc.

COMPENSATION BENEFITS: $33,690.00 TMRS 5 yr. Vested Health Insurance w/supplemental insurance.  After 6 month probation: $39,795.13  The following are per pay period: Intermediate Cert. pay $30, Advanced Cert $60, Master Cert. $80, Shift Differential $20, Bilingual $20, Uniform $40.  Last day for applications: Friday October 13, 2017 at 4:00 p.m.

 

REQUIREMENTS:  U.S. Citizen, earned a High School diploma or GED.  Have completed/graduated from a TECOLE approved basic peace officer training school, be 21 years of age, have a current TCOLE Peace Officer License. Be in good standing with & meet all TCOLE requirements, have honorable discharge for prior military service(s). Be of good moral character, have never been arrested or under court ordered community supervision, have current valid Texas Driver’s License w/a good driving record (no more than three (3) moving violations in past 36 months, no offenses for DWI. No insurance &/or no suspensions within the past 12 years. Able to use a computer including word processing & database data entry.  Willing and able to pass a rigorous hiring process, which includes a written exam, personal interview, pre-employment medical physical, drug screen, psychological and complete a Field Training Program. Possess or have ability to obtain a Basic Animal control Officer Certificate issued by the State of Texas, and ability to obtain State Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer within 12 months of employment.
