WATER NOTICE

NOTICE: If you are experiencing water issues or a drop in water pressure, it is part of the City’s next valve replacement project that was started on Wednesday, December 20. It was advertised in the paper, and emergency services including the hospital were given notice. It shouldn’t be out too late on 12/20 and the project will occur in the evening on Friday, 12/21.

The City realizes these projects pose a minor inconvenience from time to time, however, when they are completed, these new valves will help minimize the number of people affected when work needs to be done in the future. At the end of these projects, life will be easier on everyone and the possibility of large scale water outages, due to a failure of a small part of the water system, will be significantly reduced.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work to improve our city.

Pearsall Chosen as a Main Street City

The Texas Historical Commission (THC) has designated the City of Pearsall as a 2018 official Texas Main Street City.

The THC’s Texas Main Street Program is a revitalization program for historic downtown and neighborhood commercial districts. Pearsall will officially enter the program January 1 and will be part of the state’s Small City Main Street network.

“The Texas Main Street Program preserves the character of Texas’ downtowns, attracting new businesses and bringing more tourist dollars into local communities,” said THC Chairman John L. Nau, III. “Pearsall and Temple know that historic preservation isn’t about the past – it’s about developing new economic opportunities for the future.”

Pearsall’s Mayor, Mary Moore, said, “This designation will help pave the way for the revitalization of the City’s downtown historic district and preserve the best of what makes Pearsall special. This is something our community and this administration has been working toward for a long time.”

The THC’s Texas Main Street Program began in 1981 as one of the first state coordinating programs in the U.S. Since then, 176 Texas communities have participated in the program, generating more than $3.7 billion in overall reinvestment into historic downtowns, creating more than 37,000 jobs, and 9,200 small businesses.

Every year, the THC may select up to five Texas cities for official Main Street designation. Local Main Street programs receive a wide range of services and technical expertise from the THC including design and historic preservation, planning, economic development, organizational management, and training. The Texas program is affiliated with the National Main Street Center, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The announcement was made December 8 at the THC’s quarterly commission meeting in Austin, Texas.
